“West from Ponsonby and South of the Bombays”
Head west from Ponsonby along Great North Road and prepare to see two surprising women artists as diverse as Auckland itself. "South of the Bombays" -- come and find out.
Jenni Caldwell and Libby Lim are combining in their first exhibition of 2011 in the Kirk St Gallery at Art Bureau, 9 Kirk St Grey Lynn ( just behind the new Audi showrooms on Gt North Rd)
Jenni Caldwell completed a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland in 1982. She has inspired many young artists through her extensive teaching experience and exhibitions over the past 30 years (including private exhibitions in Remuera and Parnell, the Auckland Society of Arts and NZ Portrait Gallery). Her speciality is Colour Theory and every aspect associated with it.
Of particular interest is her fascination with dance notation (Laban Rotation - a system of recording movement) that is incorporated into her dance artworks. Her portraits are also a delight. …….
Libby Lim has been painting continuously for over twenty five years using oils, soft pastels on rag paper and more recently acrylics. Her style and technique is ever changing as she is inspired by the world around her, a love of bright colours, life's events and poetry.
Her latest works evolve from a change of life style and new beginnings. She regularly exhibits locally and has work held in private collections in Europe and Australia.
With a love of colour, Libby draws inspiration from nature, personal life experiences, poetry and emotions. She works with oil paint, pastels, acrylics and experiments with handmade paper and canvas to create texture and subtle effects.
Libby Lim's work has being exhibited in the French Art Shop & Gallery, Franklin Arts Centre, The Royal Easter show and numerous collaborative shows.
An award winning artist she lives south of the Bombay hills in North Waikato.
