-Roy Good

Roy Good was born in Timaru in 1945, where he attended school until leaving to attend the Canterbury School of Art, graduating with a Diploma of Fine Arts in 1965.

Good’s work has generally been concerned with a careful and full analysis of geometry and colours. The design elements in his work reflect his previous background in graphic design, but are particularly relevant to New Zealand, alluding to both Maori and Polynesian symbolic art.

His most recent work shown in 2002, explores the theme of continuous lines: “…a rare exhibition by this accomplished painter whose delicate surfaces and geometric compositions are energised by arcing, intricate, continuous lines that change in colour as they cross over a variety of elements.” T J McNamara, NZ Herald art critic.

He has exhibited throughout New Zealand since the late 1960’s, both in solo and group shows.

Roy Good’s work is represented in the Auckland University Collection, the James Wallace Trust collection, the Dunedin Hocken Library, Manukau Institute of Technology and various private collections.
