August Macke

August Macke was born in Germany in 1887 and killed in World War I in 1914. After his training in Germany he made several trips to Paris where he came into contact with impressionism and the fauvist and cubist painters. Macke was a brilliant colourist creating watercolours of a fine transparency with subtle prismatic patterns.
