Born in England, Joan Cawthorn immigrated to the United in 1962 where she resides with her family. Always gravitating to the arts, Joan's early studies were in instrumental and vocal music which she still enjoys. Returning to college to study fine arts, she became an established watercolour artist, and remains a member of several art faculties and watercolour societies. Branching into other mediums including acrylics, Joan's work has garnished numerous awards, and is included in many private collections worldwide. Joan paints in a "wet-in-wet" technique, attempting to capture the essence of the subject rather than detailed expression. Continuing to experiment, Joan Cawthorn feels that the learning process is never ending.
