Frank Woodward

Frank Woodward trained as a printmaker. He studied at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, where he grew up, after living in Papua New Guinea during his teenage years. Woodward moved back to New Zealand in the early 1990s and became interested in ceramics which grew into sculpture, and a combination of materials combining concrete, wood, glass and steel. The origin of his ideas are a combination of the years in New Guinea and the Irish landscape where he also lived. He particularly loved the standing stones in Ireland which litter the countryside and the hidden history of objects that mark the passage of time. The swamp Kauri that Woodward uses, comes from Northland and is between 10,000 and 40,000 years old.
