Kobas paintings are an abstract study of colour and perspective using broad vertical strokes and bold colour. His work began as a form of expressive therapy in response to psychological, emotional and spiritual extremes, while his paintings provide a channel for the expression of emotion and crystallizing of visual concepts. He has also discovered that he has an instinctive approach to colour and form. Koba forms sharp internal images of the colour palette and composition of a work before he embarks on it - then references these stored and created visual impressions as he paints - rather than forming working sketches. He is particularly drawn to the works of Rothko and Barnett Newman.
